Why Share Space with a Sacred Place?

In our pre-COVID-19 world, creating your artistic work meant lots of planning and searching for resources — for artists, dance, theater, performing arts, and nonprofits — including space rentals for your administrative needs, rehearsal, performance, or storage that also fit your budget. With the pandemic settled into our society, that planning and searching may have gotten more tough as some of our regular places and collective shared spaces may have closed and some space databases shut down their services. In addition, your budget may have also taken a hit in the process. So, now your space search has gotten more complex and potentially more expensive. 

Arts in Sacred Places (AiSP) connects artists with community

Partners for Sacred Places is dedicated to the sound stewardship and active community use of older historic religious properties. This group’s Arts in Sacred Places (AiSP) program puts together artists looking for space with sacred places who have space they wish to share with artists. Part of AiSP is the NYC Dance in Sacred Places project – now open to all performing artists! This unique project provides the only space sharing program that brings artists together with potential space sharing partnerships, through a process of mission and vision alignment — making your space sharers an extension of your work in your community. As vaccination rates rise, the goal is to help artists prepare and plan sacred places for space sharing together for the rest of 2021, and beyond. 

AiSP also offers free training for sacred places

After completing the artist registration form, you will be able to attend their free training program which brings you, the artists, in the same “zoom room” as sacred places in Manhattan and Brooklyn. During these four 90-120 minute virtual engaging sessions, you will talk about Mission and Vision alignment, what to know about yourself and your potential space sharing partner before getting into an agreement, communication do’s and don’ts, re-imagining these sacred places for arts use, building the framework for a space sharing agreement, and a legal session featuring their legal partner, Goldstein Hall.

AiSP believes in the artistic integrity of sacred places

Throughout the process, AiSP shares the clear belief of transparency and honesty of artistic content and the story to be told. Their program supports their mission to build better understanding between both the congregations and the artists in the shared space.
