What is Branding?
What is Branding, and how does it relate to marketing your artistic work?
Branding is the expression of an entity’s personality and values, through elements such as color, typography, imagery, and words. While the world of corporate and non-profit branding is typically focused on marketing efforts such as a website, email blasts, and business cards, in recent years society has expanded the branding term, often using it to describe someone’s personality and values, as shown through their social media or web presence. For those in the arts, this evolution of the term branding is both exciting and useful, as it expands the traditional meaning of branding to include an artist’s body of work. Therefore, branding can mean not only the way you market your art, through websites, emails, and social media – but also the embodiment of what your artistic work stands for. In short, branding is the story an entity tells, to train the audience how to think about what that entity means.
